We are the originating school
Kind Act to self:
Our school staff is providing a hot supper each day, from Nov.13 to Dec.20, to a boy in our school who lives alone with his mom who is dying of cancer. Each day a staff member shows up to their house, gives them dinner and delivers the message "We care."
Kind Act to the environment:
A school beautification program where students are rewarded for each kind act by being given a Reimer Recognition Ticket that they redeem for prizes.
Kind Act you performed and your experience as a "giver":
Four of our Grade 8 classes adopted a family from the Christmas Bureau to help make this family's Christmas wishes come true. The Grade 8's started collecting the food, stocking stuffers, and presents on Nov.13 and today, Nov. 28, we made contact with the family to tell them about the KindActs initiative and how we are passing our coin on to them. To our amazement, not only was the mother very gracious in her acceptance of the coin, but she said the Pay It Forward video is very near to her and her childrens' heart. She explained that awhile back, this video mysteriously showed up at their doorstep. The mom watched the video, then showed it to her children, then as a family each did a kind act for someone in need. The mom explained that she would pass the coin on with great joy (and we will record it for her on the Website). She has chosen Abby Middle School as the recipient of her coin. The Mom mentioned that often she and her children watch the part on the Pay It Forward movie where people arrive at the families house honking their horns and flashing thier lights as they present the kind act. As a school, we plan to arrive at her house on Dec. 18 in our cars and with a school bus with the Grade 8 kids in it and honk our horns and flash our lights as we present the family with presents and food for the Christmas holidays.
How do we feel? You can only imagine the joy and pride we feel already. I am sure words won't be able to describe the way the Principal, the teachers, the students and I will feel on the day we arrive honking our horns and making someones Christmas better. We feel so blessed to be part of this project.
