To help the environment, students held a litter-less lunch week where they focused their energy on reducing the amount of garbage in their lunches. Every day, members of the student council would tally up the amount of garbage left after lunch in each classroom.
The results affirmed how simple acts can indeed make a significant difference.

The school continued the environmental theme in their kind act to another by raising money for the World Wildlife Fund through a Coin Drive. Students brought in different coins for each day of the week; for example, nickels on Fridays and dimes on Thursday. The result was inspiring: $405!!!

Roots & Wings Montessori
Roots and Wings staff and students have chosen to integrate their kind act to the environment into the science curriculum. From sharing ideas on how to save energy and reduce waste to demonstrating the impact of the greenhouse effect through a "Carbon game" simulation, this school is making our natural environment a top priority.

As their kind act to another, Roots and Wings Montessori students performed a special skit (Pandora's Box), recited a poem (In Flanders Field) and sang a song (One Voice) to War Veterans, Don Robertson and Richard Reynolds. The students then passed on a wreath with handmade poppies and the UNI Coin to their honoured guests.
