St. James Daycare (UNI #146) Wins Education & Outreach Award

Lisa and kids

St. James Daycare has been an active promoter of kindness - both in words and action - since the first Coin-spiracy launch in 2002. Now a third time Coin-spiracy participant, St. James Daycare is a heartwarming example of how simple kind acts have a profound impact.
"Our experience has changed the way we present St. James when showing parents around. We mention the project to them and the positive feedback we have had from the community. There is an awareness that we are contributing to the children's emotional intelligence by involving them in the joy of giving and caring for others", says Senior Supervisor Lisa Thomson.
From singing a kindness song on CityTV in honour of World Kindness Day 2003 (view pictures here), to committing hundreds of individual acts of kindness in 2004; publishing an article in BC Child Care Provider News 2006 on their Kind Acts project; and being the first to register for the Coin-spiracy in 2006, St. James Daycare is leading the way to a kinder world.

Kindness Rocks Creates a Splash!

Kindness Rocks

While Kindness Rocks may not be an official participant, they have certainly created a splash for the Coin-spiracy and kindness!!! From generating a huge wave of enthusiasm at Tecumseh School and Seaforth School (now a Coin-spiracy participant) in June 2006, to submitting kindness stories for the World Kindness Movement's “Kindness Around the World” publication, to performing in World Kindness Concert 2006 (the main fundraiser for the Coin-spiracy), Kindness Rocks is on a mission...

So... what is this "captivating, inspiring, rockin' group out to make a difference" all about?

Kindness Rocks is an initiative to help stop violence and bullying in schools and communities throughout the world by inspiring youth to take kind and positive action on a daily basis, and to let them know how important their individual contribution is to the world as a whole

The 60-minute program features International touring act, ABBA-Cadabra and world renowned author and inspirational speaker, Brock Tully. While captivating kids through the magical power of music, entertainment and laughter, "Kindness Rocks" spreads the powerful messages of social responsibility, self esteem, compassion, individuality and imagination. This program helps to teach kids the different ways to find true personal power and to feel "in-charge" of their life, without having to hurt themselves or anyone else in the process.

Be sure to keep an eye and ear out for Kindness Rocks... coming soon to a community near you...

Special Acknowledgement

Every year, Coin-spiracy participants continue to amaze us and inspire us to create new contest categories. This year, we are pleased to honour two individuals as recipients of the Special Acknowledgement prize.

While all Coin-spiracy participants deserve to be acknowledged and congratulated for choosing to make this a kinder world, the Coin-spiracy Team felt the following two individuals deserved a special thank you for creating positive ripples, not only through their actions, but a special character trait.

We wish to acknowledge:

  • Dr. Dwayne Bryk for his ENTHUSIASM! From his incredibly enthusiastic emails and speedy responses to our questions, to being the first, in this Coin-spiracy launch, to submit a journal entry (for both Elsie Roy and Strathcona Elementary School), Dr. Dwayne Bryk has lifted our spirits and brought smiles to all our team members' faces (we just couldn't help but pass on his emails). Here is an example, "Wow! Amazing! Great! What a wonderful opportunity for these schools to be involved in such an amazing place of being -- "social responsibility"--one of our key school goals! I would be pleased to forward the information to you!" One can only imagine how many lives he must brighten in a day with that kind of enthusiasm! WOW!
  • Renee Middleton for her Vision and Commitment. From first contact in Spring 2006, Renee shared her desire to create community in Fort St. John through the Coin-spiracy. This vision did not remain in the realm of thoughts for long though... From presenting the Coin-spiracy opportunity to key contacts in the school community, to raising funds to purchase 4 Coin-spiracy kits and organizing a contest to determine which schools would "win" the kits, Renee Middleton has clearly demonstrated vision and commitment. We wish Alwin Holland Elementary, Charlie Lake Elementary, Baldonnel Elementary, Ecole Central School of Fine Arts, and all those involved in supporting the vision, the very best as they embark on their Coin-spiracy experience.

Thank you and congratulations to our World Kindness Day 2006 Story Contest Winners!!! We look forward to receiving more inspiring submissions for our Earth Day 2007 Story Contest.

Story Contest Winners will be awarded a beautiful Coin-spiracy banner and a set of 100 Coin-spiracy postcards.
